Trumpet Creeper by Linda Schroeter, Oil, 20 x 16

Trumpet Creeper

Oil 20 x 16 Available

Inspiration for this painting, a Trumpet Creeper, is surrounded by a trash bag labelled with a warning there is a beautiful orange and red flower known to be an obnoxious climber that left on its own or given free run it will take over and smother those around it. The story here is one meant as a warning; Don’t let yourself be betrayed by all the its beauty that you see, there is corruption here and those that climb to higher ranks can not always be trusted. There is a hidden danger amongst the foliage for the views to find.

This painting was included in the Advancing Woman Artists exhibit for the Garzoni Challenge Annual ‘Women’s Day’ Exhibition, Pitti Palace, Sala Bianca, Uffizi Galleries, Florence, Italy

Advancing Women Artists and the Medici Archive Project, launch a creative ‘challenge’. It’s an appeal, ‘challenging’ modern-day artists to use Garzoni’s art as a springboard to create their own original works, spotlighting the foreign and the familiar. The Garzoni Challenge bridges the gap between art of the past and art of the present, becoming a catalyst for creative conversation through the centuries.
